Mission
The ASTA International
Committee, to the best of its ability, shall keep informed of all
international developments pertaining to the import and export of
seed. It shall have the responsibility of representing ASTA in all
matters affecting the seed industry worldwide in the EU (European
Union), OECD (Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development),
FIS (Federation Internationale due Commerce des Semences), the USDA/Foreign
Agricultural Service, as well as other seed-related organizations.
It shall cultivate an understanding relationship with appropriate
seed-related organizations and may cooperate with them on matters
of mutual interest.
The committee shall have responsibility of
developing and executing programs, as authorized by the Board of
Directors, in the USDA Unified Export Strategy and Market Promotion
programs. Dollar funds for the operation of marketing projects under
said agreement shall be solicited from committee members.
The ASTA Board of Directors' meeting of June
25, 1998, abolished the $700 annual dues. However, members of the
committee shall make contributions as needed to finance programs
administered by the committee.
The chair, individuals appointed by the committee
to represent ASTA on FIS Section Boards, and the chair of the Phytosanitary
Subcommittee shall act as an Executive Committee whenever there
are developments requiring attention that would not justify calling
a meeting of the full committee.
A semi-annual report of activities of the International
Committee shall be made by the chairperson to the ASTA Boards of
Directors.
