Anthracnose of Pepper
Colletotrichum scovillei · fungus
- Issue type
- disease
- Seedborne
- Yes, travels on seed
- Resistance code
- -
- Affects
- Pepper
Symptoms
Sunken circular lesions on ripening pods with concentric rings of dark spore masses, worst on fruit left to colour fully in warm wet weather.
Management
Distinct from tomato anthracnose, which is caused by different Colletotrichum species, so tomato resistance says nothing here. Clean seed, prompt harvest, and rotation away from peppers carry the load; no commercial variety carries strong resistance.
Varieties with documented resistance
No commercial varieties in the database carry documented resistance to this issue, management is cultural and (for seedborne pathogens) starts with tested, certified seed.
