Rocoto (Manzano)
The Rocoto (Manzano) record covers the type; this is the red-fruited form specifically.
Origin & history
The red apple chile of the Mexican highlands. Like all pubescens it carries black seeds, purple flowers and hairy leaves, tolerates cold that would stop other Capsicum, and lives for years where winters are mild.
Measurements
| Measurement | Value | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Days to maturity | 120-180 days | Among the longest seasons of any Capsicum; the species rarely finishes in a short northern summer without an early indoor start. |

Traits
Disease resistance
No documented disease resistance, typical of heirlooms and older open-pollinated varieties. See pepper diseases for the cultural playbook that fills the gap.
