Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper)
Derived from Naga Morich stock, not from Bhut Jolokia, though all three are sold as 'Naga'.
Origin & history
Selected in Dorset, England by Michael and Joy Michaud from a Naga Morich plant bought at a market, and stabilised over several years. One of the few superhots with a documented western breeding history.
Measurements
| Measurement | Value | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Days to maturity | 95-120 days | |
| Scoville heat | 661,451-1,598,227 SHU | Published tests of this line span an unusually wide band; both boundaries come from reported analyses rather than one measurement. |
Traits
Disease resistance
No documented disease resistance, typical of heirlooms and older open-pollinated varieties. See pepper diseases for the cultural playbook that fills the gap.
