Origin & history
An African-American heirloom of the Chesapeake Bay, used in the oyster and crab houses of Baltimore and Philadelphia. Its variegated white-and-green foliage and cream-striped immature pods let cooks season pale seafood sauces without visible flecks. Preserved by the Weaver family from a gift by painter Horace Pippin.
